The Delta State Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of Chief Love Shimite, Special Adviser to the State Governor on Trade and Export, who passed away in the early hours of Easter Monday.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, the police were alerted to the incident by the deceased’s husband, who reported that his wife had died and that he was receiving threats from her family.
“He (the husband) called us, saying his wife died early that morning and that he was receiving threats from her family. Fearing an attack, we moved quickly to his residence and placed him in protective custody,” Edafe stated.
While emphasizing that the husband was not under arrest, Edafe clarified that he was being protected due to escalating tensions. However, the case took a new turn when members of the deceased’s family formally reported to the police, expressing suspicion that the husband may have been involved in her death.
“In such cases, an autopsy is crucial to determine the actual cause of death, whether it was natural or otherwise,” Edafe added.
The police have assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that all findings will be based on facts and forensic evidence.
