Vice President Kashim Shettima on Sunday, commissioned 375 tractors refurbished by the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) under its National Assets Recovery, Refurbishment and Redeployment Project, known as the asset restore project.
The event took place at the Borno State Agricultural Mechanisation Authority (BOSAMA) headquarters in Maiduguri, marking a major step in revitalising agricultural infrastructure in the state.
Shettima praised Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum for his leadership and commitment to agricultural development.
“My greatest commendation goes to the governor of Borno State for his steadfast leadership,” Shettima said, while also lauding NASENI’s efforts in promoting agricultural mechanisation and infrastructure innovation nationwide.

“We’ve seen NASENI play critical roles in renewable energy, compressed natural gas retrofitting, and now agricultural mechanisation. It’s a reminder that solving Nigeria’s challenges requires homegrown technological solutions,” the vice president added.
Earlier, Gov. Zulum highlighted the long-term vision that led to the procurement of the tractors during Shettima’s tenure as governor between 2011 and 2019.
“These tractors were initially acquired by my predecessor, Senator Kashim Shettima.
“He procured 1,000 tractors and accompanying implements including 250 units each of groundnut diggers, fertiliser broadcasters, rotovators, bailers, and 25 combined harvesters,” Gov. Zulum said.
“It was a bold investment in the future of our farmers.”
Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, and NASENI Vice Chairman/CEO, Khalil Suleiman Halilu, also commended Gov. Zulum for advancing agricultural development in the state.
In a related development, Vice President Shettima also commissioned 351 new farm implements recently procured by the Zulum administration.
These include 121 disc ploughs, 180 disc harrows, grain threshers, rotary slashers, and six-cubic-meter diesel tankers, according to the Borno State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Bawu Musami.
