Senate confirms Nwakuche as correctional service controller-general

The Senate has confirmed Sylvester Nwakuche as the controller-general of the Nigerian Correctional Service.

Nwakuche’s confirmation followed the adoption of the report presented by the Senate Committee on Interior, chaired by Senator Adams Oshiomhole, during plena on Tuesday.

He said “to whom much is given, much is expected,” expressing hope that Nwakuche’s leadership will help eliminate jailbreaks in the country.

President Bola Tinubu had nominated Nwakuche for the position the previous week, citing the provisions of the Nigerian Correctional Service Act of 2019, in a letter addressed to the Senate.

The nomination was swiftly directed to the Senate Committee on Interior for thorough review, which culminated in the confirmation on Tuesday.
