SDP expels El-Rufai, bans him for 30 years
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has expelled former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, and banned him from the party for the next 30 years.

This decision comes after claims that he lied about being a member and behaved improperly.

The party’s spokesperson, Araba Aiyenigba, stated that El-Rufai did not follow the proper steps to join the party, like registering at his local level.

Instead, he allegedly faked documents, took pictures with suspended party officials, and falsely announced on social media that he was now part of the SDP.

Additionally, the party accused him of attempting to work with another political group, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), while trying to pull the SDP into a coalition without approval.

The SDP described his actions as “gross indiscipline” and manipulation that created division and disrupted the party’s harmony.

The party said El-Rufai even attempted to declare himself as the first member of his ward without any official permission.

He was also accused of trying to hold an unauthorised party meeting to destabilise the party’s structure with dishonest tactics.

As a result, the party’s leadership decided to expel him immediately.

He is now barred from calling himself an SDP member, using the party’s name or symbols, or participating in any party activities until July 28, 2055.

The party has urged the public and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ignore any claims from El-Rufai about being part of the SDP and emphasised its dedication to fairness, discipline, and strong values.

They encouraged new members to join through honest and transparent means.
