Salah wins Premier League top player award

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has been honoured as the Premier League’s top player this season.

This marks the second time for the 32-year-old Egyptian to receive this accolade, which is determined by a combination of public votes and selections from a group of football specialists.

He previously earned the recognition in the 2017-18 season.

Salah, who guided his team to the Premier League championship this term, outperformed his fellow teammates Virgil van Dijk and Ryan Gravenberch, along with Arsenal’s Morgan Gibbs-White and Declan Rice, Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, and Chris Wood from Nottingham Forest.

This is the first instance since the 2018-19 season that no player from Manchester City has claimed the honor.

Heading into the final match of the season against Crystal Palace on Sunday, Salah has netted 28 goals in the league, which is five more than the next closest competitor, plus he has provided 18 assists, exceeding all others by six, and is just two short of the record of 20 held by Thierry Henry and Kevin de Bruyne.

In addition, this season he has achieved the distinction of being the all-time leading foreign scorer in Premier League history, surpassing Sergio Aguero’s record of 184 goals, and has secured a new two-year deal to remain at Anfield until 2027.

Earlier this month, Salah was recognized as the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year for the third time, receiving over 90% of the votes.
