The British Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr. Jonny Baxter, has described Rugby School Nigeria, located in Eko Atlantic City, Lagos State, as an exceptional representation of collaboration between the UK and Nigeria.

Baxter, who headed a group from the British Deputy High Commission in Lagos to the Rugby School Nigeria, received a warm welcome from Eko Atlantic City directors and project managers of ITB Nigeria Limited.

He conveyed his excitement about the advancement of the project and its importance for Nigeria’s educational realm.

Baxter stated that “it has been a genuine joy to visit the remarkable site of Rugby School Nigeria at Eko Atlantic City.

“This initiative exemplifies UK-Nigeria collaboration by bringing the legacy and scholarly excellence of one of Britain’s premier institutions right into the heart of Lagos.

“Education serves as the foundation for a successful future, and projects like this provide options for quality education while equipping young Nigerians with the skills, confidence, and global outlook necessary for leadership and innovation.

“I eagerly anticipate the launch of Rugby School Nigeria this September, and its contribution to establishing Nigeria as a center for top-tier international education throughout West Africa.”

Rugby School Nigeria, connected to the renowned Rugby School founded in 1567, is scheduled to welcome its first cohort of Year 7 (age 11) and Year 12 (age 16, A Level) students in September 2025.

The development, which is currently ahead of schedule, employs over 1,000 construction professionals, with ITB Nigeria spearheading the project.

Once completed, the modern campus will provide a challenging academic programme paired with a diverse array of extra-curricular activities, reflecting Rugby School’s ‘whole person, whole point’ philosophy.

Principal of Rugby School Nigeria, Adam England, also expressed his enthusiasm regarding the visit and the school’s prospects.
