Rep. Yakubu decries federal neglect of constituency

The House of Representatives member representing Bali/Gassol Federal Constituency of Taraba State, Rep. Ja’afaru Yakubu, has decried the long-standing neglect of his constituency by the federal government.

Speaking with journalists on Tuesday in Jalingo, Rep. Yakubu said the lack of federal presence and critical infrastructure in his constituency, motivated him to seek public office, pledging to continue championing development and inclusivity for his people.

“One of the reasons I ventured into politics was the alarming level of abandonment my constituency had suffered. It was a wake-up call for me to do something meaningful,” Rep. Yakubu stated.

He also expressed concern over the collapse of the Namne Bridge, along the Jalingo–Wukari Road, lamenting that delays in reconstructing the road have continued to hamper movement and economic activities in the region.

Since assuming office, the lawmaker said he has facilitated numerous development projects aimed at reversing the years of stagnation.

These include the construction of access roads and bridges to connect isolated communities in Gassol Local Government Area.

Highlighting his achievements, Rep. Yakubu revealed that he has provided scholarships to undergraduate students, sponsored the training of six constituents in China, and initiated multiple road construction projects.

He added that over 500 women have been trained and empowered, while 60 youths received ICT training and laptop donations.

In addition, the House member said 250 sewing machines have been distributed to constituents, while several water projects have been initiated across the constituency.

Rep. Yakubu reeled out other initiatives to include, the installation of solar streetlights, provision of a 33kva transformer, donation of four engine boats, motorcycles, and support for primary health care centres in the constituency.

The lawmaker assured constituents that he remains committed to sustainable development and inclusive governance, promising more interventions to improve the standard of living in Bali/Gassol Federal Constituency.
