Police foil kidnapping attempt in Adamawa, arrest suspect

The Adamawa State Police Command has thwarted a kidnapping attempt in Gombi Local Government Area of the state, arresting a suspect and recovering a firearm in the process.

According to a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, Suleiman Nguroje, the operation was carried out under the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, as part of ongoing efforts to combat criminal activity across the state.

The incident, according to the command, began on June 7, 2025, when Lamido Bello of Ungwan Faransa in Gombi Local Government Area reported to the police that his elder brother, Alhaji Dahiru of Kamsu Village, had received a threatening call from an unidentified individual demanding ₦1 million or face being abducted.

In response, the police launched a swift operation in collaboration with local hunters.

During the operation, 32-year-old Manu Ahmadu was apprehended at a remote site near Kamsu Village in Hong Local Government Area as he attempted to retrieve the ransom he had instructed to be dropped.

According to the police, the suspect tried to disarm one of the local security operatives during the arrest, prompting a defensive response.

“He sustained injuries in the process and was immediately taken to a medical facility where he is currently receiving treatment,” the police statement said.

The police added that a pump action gun and three cartridges were recovered at the scene.

The state commissioner of police reaffirmed the command’s commitment to public safety and urged residents to continue cooperating with law enforcement agencies by reporting suspicious activities promptly.

The suspect, as made known by the police will be charged to court upon the completion of investigations.
