Police Commissioner calls for calm after deadly attack in Taraba communities

Following a brutal attack that left more than 37 people dead in the Karim-Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State, the State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel S. Bretet, has urged community leaders to encourage residents to remain in safe zones and cooperate fully with security forces.

The appeal was contained in a press statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, James Leshen, after Commissioner Bretet visited the affected communities for an on-the-spot assessment.

The area was plunged into mourning on Saturday after the massacre, which authorities suspect was carried out by armed herders.

Condemning the attack in strong terms, Commissioner Bretet announced an immediate overhaul of the local security framework, including the deployment of additional police personnel to restore order and build community confidence.

He emphasized the importance of peace and unity, calling on community leaders to help defuse tensions and promote reconciliation.

Reaffirming the command’s dedication to protecting lives and property, the Commissioner assured residents that comprehensive measures are being implemented to return normalcy to the region.

Responding to the visit, Karim-Lamido Council Chairman, Bitrus Danjos, applauded the swift response by law enforcement and pledged continued collaboration. “We will continue to share intelligence reports and support security efforts across the state,” he said.
