Police clamp down on illegal motorparks in Gombe

The Gombe State Police Command has announced the immediate closure of all illegal motor- parks and unauthorised taxi operations within the state capital, including the popular Dadin Kowa Motor- Park.

In a statement issued by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Buhari Abdullahi, the crackdown is part of a broader effort by the state government to restore order, improve public safety, and regulate transportation activities within Gombe metropolis.

As part of the new directive, all commercial vehicle loading and unloading must now take place exclusively at the Ibrahim Dan-Kwambo Motor -Park, which has been reaffirmed as the only officially designated hub for such operations.

Taxis operating without the official paint and identification, according to the statement, will also be deemed unauthorised.

“Any individual or group found operating illegal motor parks or offering unauthorised taxi services will face arrest, prosecution, and risk having their vehicles impounded,” the statement read.

Residents and commuters were advised not to patronize vehicles at unofficial locations or those lacking the prescribed taxi markings, as a safety precaution.

The police command called on transport operators and the public to comply with the directive, emphasizing that the measure is aimed at reducing traffic congestion, enhancing commuter safety, and improving the overall efficiency of the state’s transport system.

The statement instructed security agencies to strictly monitor compliance, and encouraged members of the public to report any suspicious transport activities to the nearest security post.
