Police arrest female gunrunner, drug supplier to bandits

The police have announced the arrest of a female gunrunner and the interception of drugs intended for bandits and insurgents.

A statement issued on Tuesday, by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the suspected gunrunner, Hauwa Sani (30) was intercepted at Doro Village, along the Keffi/Abuja Expressway on December 23, 2024, by operatives of the Force Intelligence Department-Special Tactical Squad (FID-STS).

“Hauwa was found in possession of 124 rounds of live ammunition of various calibre, cleverly concealed inside a 5-litre container of palm oil.

“During interrogation, she confessed that she was tasked by one Nasiru of Daura to deliver the ammunition to Katsina State. Investigations are ongoing, with further recoveries and arrests expected.

“In another operation on February 1, 2025, FID-STS operatives, acting on credible intelligence, arrested Alhaji Usman Yahaya, Joseph Matthew, and Solomon Bala, all residents of Potiskum, Yobe State.

“The suspects were intercepted while transporting 30 cartons of codeine syrup and other hard drugs. They admitted that the drugs were intended for supply to bandits, Boko Haram insurgents, and kidnappers operating in Yobe State and neighbouring countries.

“Additionally, on February 3, 2025, the police apprehended Yusuf Dantani, Usman Labaran, and Musa Mohammed, who were found with 10 AK-47 rifles. The suspects confessed to being involved in multiple arms deals, revealing that they had received N3,980,000 for their most recent transaction.

“These operations underscore the Nigeria Police Force’s unwavering commitment to combating crime and dismantling criminal networks. The Force has reiterated its resolve to ensure the safety and security of all citizens, urging the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities,” the police said.
