Peter Obi Applauds Alex Otti’s Two-Year Transformation in Abia

The Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Mr. Peter Obi, has hailed the transformational leadership of Governor Alex Otti in Abia State, describing his two years in office as a shining example of purposeful governance. Obi made the remarks during a Special Anniversary Sabbath Service held at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Aguiyi Ironsi Layout, Umuahia, where he praised the governor’s visible achievements, saying, “You don’t need to tune to the radio to see what Governor Otti has done.”

According to Obi, the celebration of Otti’s second year in office is well deserved, as the governor has redefined leadership by delivering results that are seen and felt across the state. “People always say they need eight or ten years to make an impact, but I’ve always believed that even one day can make a difference. What Governor Otti has done in two years proves that real change is possible with the right leadership,” Obi declared to an applauding congregation.

He urged the people of Abia to continue supporting Otti with prayers, emphasizing that Nigeria needs more leaders who view public office as a trust and not a personal empire. Obi said, “It is difficult to govern Nigeria, especially when you’re trying to do it the right way. But we must continue to pray for leaders like Governor Otti, and also pray that others in power will begin to use public resources for the public good.”

Obi reiterated his long-standing position that his political ambition is driven not by desperation for power, but by a passion to see Nigeria work. “When I say I’m not desperate to be President, I mean it. I’m desperate to see Nigeria work. We need future leaders like Governor Otti who are committed to service, transparency, and transformation.”

Governor Otti, in his remarks, credited all progress made under his administration to divine inspiration and support. In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, the governor referenced 1 Corinthians 3:6–7 to stress that while his team has worked hard, it is God who has given the increase. “Paul said he planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase. We recognize that our success is not by our strength alone, and that is why we give all glory to God,” Otti stated.

The governor also extended his gratitude to members of the executive, judiciary, and legislature, as well as the church and citizens of Abia, for their continued prayers and support for his administration’s mission to build a better Abia.

Pastor Enyinnaya K. Uguru, former President of the Abia North Conference of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, delivered a thought-provoking sermon titled “At The Fullness Of Time.” He highlighted that Governor Otti’s emergence after years of electoral setbacks was a divine appointment, noting that “Periods of delays are periods of preparation.” Commending the governor’s performance, Pastor Uguru stated bluntly, “I no longer listen to government media platforms because of lies. But this time, I have seen the evidence. Governor Otti is doing well.”

Reacting to the theme of the event, Two Years of Transformation: Sustaining the Momentum, the pastor expressed hope that with Governor Otti at the helm, Abia State will continue on a path of prosperity and growth. He offered prayers for more wisdom, strength, and selfless service from the governor and his team.

The special service was attended by senior government officials, community leaders, and notable Abians, all united in their support and celebration of what many are calling a new era of leadership and development in Abia State.
