Delta State’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is facing yet another political earthquake as Hon. Somadina Anwasia, a prominent party stalwart and former Vice Chairman of Oshimili South LGA, officially resigned. His departure, effective February 3, 2025, marks a major shift in the state’s political landscape and adds momentum to Senator Ned Nwoko’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in pursuit of Anioma State creation.
This fresh blow to the PDP comes just 48 hours after Senator Ned Nwoko’s dramatic exit, signaling a growing exodus of key stakeholders from the party. Analysts believe the wave of defections could reshape political calculations ahead of the next elections, leaving PDP in a crisis it may struggle to recover from.

Hon. Anwasia, a political heavyweight with nearly two decades of influence in Delta politics, has been instrumental in shaping policies within the PDP. After serving in the Nigerian Army, he joined the party in 2007 and has since held strategic positions in both the party and government. His contributions have earned him a reputation as a grassroots mobilizer and a force to reckon with in Delta politics.
With his departure, speculations are rife that more high-ranking PDP members will follow suit, further weakening the party’s grip on Delta State. The defection storm appears far from over, and all eyes are now on PDP’s next move in what is shaping up to be one of the most dramatic political realignments in recent times.
