Tensions are rising in Adamawa State following the shocking death of Alkasim Ibrahim, a young and promising phone repair technician, who was allegedly brutalized to death by a Nigerian soldier over a delayed phone repair. The incident, which has sparked widespread outrage across social media and among human rights groups, occurred in Mayo Belwa and has now drawn the attention of the International Human Rights Commission.

According to eyewitnesses, including Mallam Nuruddeen Abubakar, the horrifying ordeal began when Alkasim was reportedly unable to complete repairs on a mobile phone belonging to the girlfriend of a soldier identified as Ahmed Ibrahim. It remains unclear whether the delay was caused by a high volume of work or technical challenges, but rather than wait for the issue to be resolved, the lady allegedly informed her soldier boyfriend.

What followed was an unprovoked and brutal attack. Eyewitness accounts say the soldier stormed Alkasim’s repair shop in broad daylight and mercilessly beat him in front of stunned onlookers. The assault left Alkasim unconscious, and tragically, he later succumbed to his injuries.

As news of the killing spread, outrage quickly followed. What makes the case even more infuriating is that the alleged assailant, a member of the Nigerian Army entrusted with the duty to protect civilians, has since gone into hiding and is yet to be apprehended. The lack of immediate arrest or official response has triggered anger among local residents and activists.

The International Human Rights Commission (IHRC) has now waded into the matter, calling the incident “completely unacceptable” and demanding immediate justice for the slain technician. “We demand justice for Alkasim Ibrahim. This is not just a tragedy; it’s a betrayal of the trust placed in the Nigerian military,” the IHRC said in a statement released to the press.

As of the time of this report, local police authorities have not confirmed the full details surrounding the incident, nor have they made any public statement regarding the alleged involvement of the soldier. However, the silence from both the military and the police is drawing criticism from citizens who are demanding accountability.

This tragic event comes amid growing concerns over abuse of power by security personnel across Nigeria. With increasing reports of brutality and extrajudicial killings, the death of Alkasim Ibrahim is quickly becoming a symbol of the urgent need for reform within Nigeria’s armed forces.
