Oborevwori hails unity, support as Delta marks second anniversary with thanksgiving

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has declared that the unity and broad-based support his administration enjoys across political, ethnic, and religious lines are key to the transformational strides recorded in the past two years.

Speaking at the 2025 Delta State Thanksgiving and Praise Day held at the Events Centre in Asaba, the Governor highlighted how inclusive leadership, strengthened by strategic partnerships with the Federal Government and stakeholders across divides, is paving the way for greater development in the state.

He emphasized that Delta’s position as one of the top contributors to Nigeria’s revenue reinforces its right to receive commensurate dividends from the center, and expressed confidence that ongoing cooperation with the Federal Government would yield even more for the people.

“Fellow Deltans and residents of Delta State, it is with immense joy and gratitude to God that I address you today. To the glory of God, this administration has reached the halfway mark of its tenure,” he began, adding that the administration has focused on consolidating gains while charting new paths for socio-economic progress.

Governor Oborevwori took time to appreciate Deltans for their unity and support, describing it as the bedrock of the peace and development the state enjoys. “These past two years have been focused on consolidating previous achievements, breaking new ground, and creating fresh pathways for the socio-economic advancement of our beloved Delta State,” he said.

Referencing his midterm report presented to the State House of Assembly a day prior, the Governor noted that it captures a wide spectrum of progress and thanked God for His faithfulness.

“As you know, thanksgiving is an application for more. We need more, and that is why we have come here to give thanks,” he said.

Oborevwori stressed that as his administration enters its third year, he remains committed to the MORE Agenda and to listening more to the people. He assured that the remaining two years would be marked by deeper transformation and people-centered leadership.

A highlight of the event was the impressive attendance of leaders from across political lines. “I am delighted to see our federal lawmakers, federal appointees, and leaders of our great party the APC fully represented here today. This gathering reflects the diversity and unity of our state,” he said.

“For the first time in ten years, we are united. To God be the glory.”

In his sermon titled “Giving Thanks and Enduring to Keep the Unity in the Bond of Peace,” based on Ephesians 4:3, Archbishop Cyril Odutemu of the Anglican Communion’s Bendel Province echoed the Governor’s message, stressing that unity and gratitude are critical for sustained growth.

He congratulated the Governor for his visible accomplishments, citing the completion of the Ughelli-Asaba Highway as a milestone that has won hearts across the state. Describing Oborevwori as “a child of destiny,” the Archbishop urged him to maintain close ties with all stakeholders and continue on the path of inclusive governance.

“When the mighty are far from you, your fall is not far,” he warned, emphasizing the need for ongoing collaboration.

The day’s celebration of gratitude was attended by a cross-section of Delta’s political elite and religious leaders. Dignitaries included the Governor’s wife, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori; Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme and his wife Catherine; former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and wife Edith; Senators Ned Nwoko, Ede Dafinone, and Joel-Onowakpo Thomas; Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo; Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor; members of the House of Representatives; and Delta APC Chairman, Elder Omeni Sobotie, Christabel Obiuvwevbie among others.

Governor Oborevwori concluded by calling on Deltans to keep praying and supporting the government. “We covet your prayers and continued support in our mission to advance Delta State through the MORE Agenda. I assure you all that we will do more, and we will listen to the people more.”
