NYCN moves to tackle youth restiveness, launches One Youth, One Skill’ initiative

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has restated commitment to youth development as it reconstituted leadership structures to drive the ‘One Youth, One Skill initiative’.

National President, NYCN, Amb. Sukubo Sara-Igbe in a statement Tuesday evening in Port Harcourt said the initiative was expected to promote entrepreneurship and curb restiveness amongst youths.

According to him, the organs reconstituted to drive the program are the National Forum of State Chairmen of NYCN and that of South-South State Chairmen.

Sara-Igbe said that the reconstitution was an outcome of a delegate congress recently held in Port Harcourt to elect new leaders for the two arms of the group.

He noted that while the Oyo State Chairman of NYCN Mr Abdul-Quadri Abdul-Salam was elected national Chairman of the Forum of Chairmen, his Bayelsa counterpart Mr Kokoriko Raphael emerged as the PRO.

The President also said that Mr Ambrose Okpor, Rivers chapter Chairman of the group was elected the new Chief of Staff of the Forum of state chairmen.

Sara-Igbe said that Mr Kenneth Okorie, Delta Chairman emerged as the new South-South Chairman, while the newly appointed caretaker Chairman of Akwa-Ibom State Mr Uduak Reuben was elected Secretary.

“The Forum has launched a nationwide skill development program known as “One Youth, One Skill Initiative,” to combat the menace of youth restiveness.

“The initiative is aimed at equipping the youths with marketable skills for economic empowerment.

“The initiative would also discourage idleness by promoting productivity and self-reliance,” Sara-Igbe stated
