Why Falana met Tinubu over subsidy removal, anti-corruption war

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Saturday, June 3, 2023, received human right lawyer Femi Falana to discussed ways to intercede on the planned nationwide strike action by the labour unions slated for Wednesday, The Trumpet reliably gathered.

According to the anti-corruption crusader and renowned legal luminary, the visit to the State House to see the president, who was not his choice candidate for the February general elections, was to discuss solutions to avert the industrial action and ways to reignite anti-corruption war against looters.

While the meeting between the duo raised lots of dust from certain quarters and proponents of “New Nigeria” that were flabbergasted as the news filtered in, Falana known for representing the labour unions, explained it became expedient to draw the curtain on the government’s wastefulness to recover looted funds aimed at revamping the nation’s fast dwindling economy.

“It is true that I met with President Tinubu on Saturday. We discussed subsidy and how to tackle waste in government and recover looted funds. The aim is just to ensure that the economy picks up quickly,” he said.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), however, lamented over the decadence of corruption in former President Buhari’s administration, adding that public servants went on a looting spree without being unchecked.

He added: “We need to reinvigorate the anti-corruption war. It collapsed under the Buhari regime with (former attorney-general) Abubakar Malami and others looting the treasury and frustrating the anti-corruption efforts.”

Recall that labour unions have vowed to resort to industrial actions if President Tinubu refuses to rescind his decision on fuel subsidy removal or enumerate his roadmap to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal on Nigerians.
