The Tunisia national football team has knocked out the Nigeria national team known as Super Eagle from the round of 16 stage of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Cameroon.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria crashed out of the ongoing African Cup of Nations following a shock 1-0 victory long-range shot outside the 18-yard box from Youssef Msakni at the Roumde Adjia stadium in Garoua on Sunday 23rd of January 2022.
The Tunisia side, which came into the AFCON encounter with seven missing players and their coach due to COVID-19, emerged winners over the Super Eagles in a shocking result three minutes into the second half.
Nigeria started it’s victory with a 1-0 win over Egypt, followed by a 3-1 over Sudan, and concluded with a 2-0 win against Guinea Bissau in their group stage. However, the team was knocked out for the first time without reaching the Quarter finals stage of AFCON since 1982.

At the start of the match, both teams were on the attack before the Everton player Alex Iwobi was sent off for a bad tackle barely two minutes after the Leicester forward Kelechi Iheanacho was substituted for him.
Tunisia who is progressing to the quarter final for the fourth time in four consecutive tournaments will face Burkina Faso, who had earlier beat Gabon on penalties
This is the sixth time Nigeria and Tunisia are meeting at the Africa Cup of Nations, where four of their previous five matches are being played in knock-out games and Nigeria won five with unbeaten (W3 D2, eliminating shoot-outs).
However, Tunisia only succeeded in the AFCON meeting with Nigeria in 2004, when they progressed via penalties in the semi-finals after the extra time and also proceeded to win the competition that year.
