Rangers fans laud ‘classy’ Carvin Bassey

Rangers fans have continued to praise Super Eagles Calvin Bassey over his outstanding performance in defence that saw the Scottish club overturn a one-goal deficit to win RB Leipzig 2-1.

In a tense atmosphere at Ibrox Stadium, Rangers dealt a shocking blow to the German side with two first-half goals from defender James Tavernier and midfielder Glen Kamara to hand Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side an advantageous 2-1 lead on aggregate until 45minutes.

While the Gers were busy constituting various degrees of problems to Leipzig defenders, Calvin Bassey ensured the Rangers’ defence was rocky and impenetrable.

The 19 years old Super Eagle who featured in Qatar 2022 world cup qualifiers for Nigeria while earning two caps, dedicated the victory to Rangers kit man Jimmy Bell who recently passed away at 69 after spending over 3 decades at Ibrox.

Emotionally drained Bassey, in his tweet, said, “For Jimmy, we love you, Jimmy,” touching the black armband to his chest.

Sequel to his tweet, Rangers fans have responded accordingly using the opportunity to dignify the defender for a job well done.

Andrew Bluebells said, “This boy, Calvin Bassey is a credit to the club and his family, a real classy young man.

“He’s been outstanding and will get better, he’s a man-mountain, just hope we can hold onto him next season,” he added.

Matty Van Hagi, “Honestly Bassey is one of the best signings our club has made defensively.”

Billy Adams said, “The bursts from the back are unbelievably important. And his positioning defensively has improved so much. What a player.”

Rangers face another German side Eintracht Frankfurt which won West Ham 3-1 on aggregate for the Europa League finals at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium in Sevilla, Spain on May 18.
