Terrorists kill, injure many in Katsina

Daredevil terrorists have killed scores of people and injured several others at Mji village, in Kankara council area of Katsina State.
The incident occurred on Thursday evening at about 5.30 pm when the terrorists clashed with a group of vigilantes.
Trouble started after the terrorists went to a community in Bakori council area, and rustled dozens of cattle.
They then moved the animals towards Mji community, ostensibly to move the animals into the forest located close to the area.
Some vigilantes at Bakori, on learning about what the terrorists had done, gathered themselves and pursued the terrorists.
But some informants along the route that the vigilantes were passing through, sent information to the terrorists, warning them about the vigilantes’ movement.
The terrorists were said to have called on their members located elsewhere for reinforcement, and they quickly set an ambush for the vigilantes.
It was gathered that the terrorists opened fire on the vigilantes soon as they came within range, and several of them were killed in the process.

A source from the area said more than 30 people were killed while hundreds were injured during the attack.
According to him, “Armed Bandits killed more than 30, leaving hundreds injured in Kankara local government area of Katsina state.
“Today (Thursday) afternoon, residents of Kankara trooped en mass to rescue their stolen cattle by armed bandits at about 5:30 pm at Mji community of Kankara. On reaching the scene, the bandits took them unaware and killed more than 30 villagers.”
The injured, it was learnt, are currently receiving treatment at the Kankara General Hospital.
The spokesperson for the police command in the state, SP Gambo Isah confirmed the incident on Friday morning to newsmen.
Isah, however, said that he didn’t have details of casualties, but that the Area Commander had gone to the affected community to assess the situation.
