2023: A’Ibom commissioner resigns to pursue guber ambition

Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Economic Development And Ibom Deep Seaport , Mr Akan Okon has resigned his appointment from the state Executive council.

In a letter to State Governor Udom Emmanuel dated 14th March , 2022 and made available to newsmen in Uyo Mr Akan Okon disclosed that the resignation will give him enough time to pursue his 2023 governoship aspiration in the state .

The letter reads in parts: “Today, Monday, 14th March, 2022, I formally tendered my resignation from the Akwa lbom State Executive Council as the Commissioner for Economic Development and Ibom Deep Seaport. ”

“As the scripture admonishes “to every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven…It is my deep conviction that this is the best time to take a leave in other to focus on my aspiration for the 2023 Governorship election.”

He said serving in the state cabinet was an honour and privilege under governor Udom Emmanuel and appreciated him for the opportunity granted to serve the state.

Okon ; who had served in the state Executive Council in different Ministries from the administration of Chief Godswill Obot Akpabio to Governor Udom Emmanuel appreciated the people of the state for support and encouragement which he said had motivated him to discharge all the tasks assigned to him at various times .

He said the last duty post in the Ministry of Economic Development and Ibom Deep Sea Port has helped him to provide his inputs in the three gateway vision of Land , Air and Sea for the rapid development of the state and creation of job opportunities for youths in the state.

“Throughout the duration of my service, I strived diligently to interpret His Excellency’s vision for our State as encapsulated in the Divine Mandate Agenda and Completion Agenda respectively.” he said.

The Trumpet gathered that the Commissioner is the third cabinet member who had left the state Executive Council in Akwa Ibom in the build up to 2023 governorship election in the state.

Governor Emmanuel had sacked the Chief Of Staff ( CoS) Akparawa Ephraim Inyangeyen and Senior Special Assistant on Grassroot Mobilization Mr Ekefre Ibine for supporting another governorship aspirant against the succession plan of governor Udom Emmanuel on his preferred aspirant for 2023 in the State.
