Floyd Mayweather set to establish boxing legacy in Nigeria

Oviri Kelvin, Sports Editor, Abuja the exhibition fight against Don Moore on May 14, visited the most populous black nation, Nigeria.

The undefeated boxing champion, who retired from the sport in 2017 after winning fifteen major championships, returns to the ring to challenge 18 times undefeated ‘Dangerous’ Don Moore at the exhibition fight, ‘The SHOWCASE IN The SKIES OF DUBAI’ in Bur jab Arab Helipad.

Mayweather in a press conference at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, stated that he looks forward to establishing his legacy in the country by building camps to nurture youths and children interested in the sport.

“Before I go to Dubai, I couldn’t choose a better place than Nigeria. I look forward to coming back to Nigeria to train and continue to build my legacy, and we also want to help build a boxing camp for the young youth and children coming up. With the help of Keane [Anis], one of my closest buddies, who is from Nigeria,” the 45-year-old told the Nigeria media.

“It’s all about giving back. A while back, I knew we were supposed to come to Nigeria, but things didn’t go as expected, I’m here now, and I’m proud.

“Being in Africa and being able to travel around the continent. I’ve been to Johannesburg, Morocco, Egypt, and now Nigeria. And, hopefully, before I’m gone, I get to see every country in Africa. Such a beautiful place. Africans worldwide show me love, and there’s nothing like African love,” Mayweather praised the African people.

Following, the 2021 International Boxing Hall of Fame inductee, visited the Minister of Transportation and Presidential aspirant under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon Rotimi Amaechi, in
his Abuja residence.
