Nigeria’s President-Elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu has applauded Napoli’s sensational striker, Victor Osimhen, for his exceptional performance in the Italian topflight league, Serie A to break the 33-year title drought of the Naples-based club.

The President-elect, describing the league fixtures as a process through which a new king is coronated, stressed that our own Osimhen edged other formidable contestants to claim the crown.

In a statement on Sunday, May 7, 2023, Tinubu noted that the Nigeria international is the real deal whose performance has added value to the fine tradition of Nigeria’s footballing excellence on global stage.

“I think we can all agree that there was another coronation in Italy where our son, Victor Osimhen, claimed the crown as the new King of Serie A,” Tinubu extolled.

“The real deal, or idán gangan as younger folks may describe him; Victor has continued the fine tradition of Nigeria’s footballing excellence on the global stage.

“We are all proud of him and wish him well in what is already a remarkable career,” the President-Elect added.

Recall that the Parthenopeans last won the Serie A title in 1989-1990 season and since then have been in the shadows of the dominant Juventus, Inter Milan, and Milan but came close to clinching the title last season after signing Osimhen from French club, Lille in 2020.

Foregoing, the 24-year-old forged a formidable attack, spearheading a tough contest with Milan in 2021-2022 Serie A until he sustained a catastrophic head injury that ruled him out for months, denting the Parthelopeans title challenge.

However, this season has been different with the Super Eagle’s forward gifting Napoli the trophy with an exceptional performance, including a 52-minute goal against Udinese, to clinch the title with six games left to play.
