Ex-Katsina SSG dumps APC, joins PDP

James Danjuma, Katsina

Dr Mustapha Inuwa, former Secretary to the Katsina State Government (SSG), has dumped the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

Inuwa’s defection came after he fell apart with both the APC and the state government, shortly after the party’s gubernatorial primary election some months ago.

The former SSG, who had contested in the exercise, lost after he came second to the winner, former Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) boss, Dr Dikko Radda.

Radda along with the state government and ruling party members were said to have made overtures to convince Inuwa to be content with the outcome of the gubernatorial primary, but he didn’t budge.

Before his defection, the former SSG had met with several key members of opposition parties, often behind closed doors, ostensibly to convince him to join them.

Last week, Inuwa was reported to have said that he had decided to join another party as he was no longer welcome in the APC.

He lamented that he had worked diligently to build the APC and make it become what it is, but that the party decided to treat him as if he was a nonentity.

He said his supporters had pressured him into leaving the APC to join the PDP, and that he obliged them because they had been with him through thick and thin in past years.

He assured that he and his supporters would work for the PDP so that the state would get to enjoy the administration of another party other than the APC.

Following Inuwa’s defection, his supporters pulled down APC posters that adorned the walls and fence of his campaign office in the state metropolitan area.

They also sang pro-PDP slogans, vowing to end the APC rule in the state during the next general elections.
