Late night inferno kills 20 persons, mother, child

No fewer than 20 persons, including a mother and her child have been confirmed dead after a late night fire incident burnt them at Sheka, Kano State.

Reports say that the victims were burnt beyond recognition, as the fire struck them in the middle of the night at Gandun Albasa-Bala Barodo, in Kano Municipal Local Government.

The Kano State Fire Service Public Relations Officer, Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, who confirmed the incident, said the office received a distress call from one Ibrahim Ashiru that a five-room bungalow was completely razed.

Saminu said that the victims were rescued unconscious and handed over to Inspector Shehu Lawan of Kwali Police Station, adding that doctors on duty at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital comfirmed them dead.

He decried rising cases of fire disasters, as over 20 people were burnt beyond recognition in a late night fire on Thursday at Sheka Karshen Kwalta.

He added that 20 sheep and eight grain silos were also burnt to ashes in Kunchi Local Government Area of the State.
