Bayelsa Asst Police Commissioner slumps, dies on duty

The Bayelsa State Police Command has been thrown into mourning following the death of its Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Administration, ACP Emmanuel Idowu Asufi.

The Police chief was said to have slumped and died while on active official duty at the Police headquarters in Ovom community, Yenagoa on Tuesday afternoon.

The deceased, who is in his late 50s, was an indigene of Ekwani community in Delta State. His sudden demise has thrown the entire Bayelsa Police Command into shock and mourning.

When newsmen visited the Police Command on Wednesday, the mood was solemn.

“It was shocking. Many of us saw him come into the headquarters smiling and exchanging pleasantries with everyone including the rank and file. But we were shocked when an alarm was raised that he collapsed.

“They had to rush him to the Federal Medical Centre, where he was confirmed dead,” an officer attached to Operation Puff Adder in Bayelsa told journalists

Bayelsa State command spokesman SP Asinim Butswat, confirmed the report while saying the demise of ACP Asufi, was a sad one for the Bayelsa command

Until his demise, the deceased served as Chief Security Officer to the Bayelsa Government House and Commander of the State Security Outfit, Operation Door Akpor.
