African champions Super Falcons will on October 6, 2022, play Japan’s senior women’s football team at the Misaki Park Stadium, Kobe, Japan, in a bid to keep fit and sharpen the team for international competitions.

Coach Randy Waldrum has continued to ensure the nine times African champions, preparing to battle other African countries next month for their tenth continental trophy in the 2022 Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, are kept in top shape after the tourney.

Recently, the Super Falcons played a friendly match with the Canadian ladies in the United States where they lost in the first encounter due to the squad deficiency but narrowly missed winning the second match after Canada tallied the scoreline late through Shelina Zadorski.

On the other note, Japanese Nadeshiko, having won the Women’s 2011 FIFA World Cup hosted by Germany, also hope to build on their successes as the 2018 Asian champions ahead of the 2023 FIFA World Cup co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand, The Trumpet gathered.

Doing a quick recall, the Japanese senior women’s football team whose biggest win of 21-0 was against Guam in 1997 at Guangzhou, China, plays Serbia and Finland on the 24th and 27th respectively in June.

According to emerging reports from Japan, all the necessary details to ensure both countries lock horns in a friendly exhibition have been finalised between the Japan Football Association (JFA) and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

The Trumpets reports that both countries last battled in an international friendly game in 2013, where Japan had retaliated nine years after the Super Falcons dealt an unforgettable 1-0 defeat to the Asian side in the 2004 Women Olympic Games.
