Adalikwu presents MOWCA strategy to Ivorian government, seeks support for secretariat

Secretary-General of the Maritime Organisation of West and Central Africa (MOWCA), Paul Adalikwu, has presented the organisation’s strategy to the Government of Cote d’ Voire.

He stated this during his first meeting with the Ivorian Secretary of State for Transportation, Dr. Celestine Doh Serey.

Adalikwu, who thanked the government of Cote D’Ivoire for the support given to him to emerge as the secretary general, solicited for the government’s assistance for a permanent secretariat edifice for the multilateral body.

Highpoints of the strategic plan is the Regional Maritime Development Bank (RMDB), which is planned for formal inauguration in coming months.

He also presented the new organogram and proposed draft budget for the year 2022 to the Secretary of State, Permanent Secretary and the chief of staff of the host country’s government.

Adalikwu, who assumed office in December 2021 in Abidjan after his election at the 16th Extra-Ordinary Session in Accra, Ghana, thanked the Ivorian government for its support to MOWCA since inception and other efforts to consolidate the body.

He reassured that the MOWCA secretariat under his watch would carry the government and other organs of the organisation along in its activities and encourage inputs for efficiency and fulfill expectations of member countries.

Responding, Serey commended Adalikwu for the visit and congratulated him on his election, adding that having listened to Adalikwu’s submissions and saw sincerity and willingness to make things better for the organisation, the only challenge would be adequate finances.

He assured that the government of Cote D’Ivoire was in support of the new administration, knowing the size and strength of the nation and the ability of its citizens to perform and deliver.

Serey said the issue of the permanent secretariat for MOWCA, would be reviewed while assuring that his technical team would always be available to assist MOWCA anytime the need arose.

He also promised to review the budget documents presented to him and revert in due course.
