Suspected armed bandits have launched an attack on Giyawa village in the Goronyo Local Government Area of the state, resulting in four fatalities and the reported abduction of eighteen individuals.
Goronyo is situated in the troubled Eastern Senatorial District of Sokoto State.
According to the report by Sokoto State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ahmed Rufai, confirming the incident, eighteen people were abducted by the attackers. Seven of the abducted victims managed to escape and return to their community, where many residents had fled for safety.
While some sources from the affected community claimed that over thirty individuals were abducted, the police maintained that only eleven persons remained in captivity.

Reportedly, the police are actively pursuing the assailants and working to restore normalcy in the affected community and its surroundings.
Nevertheless, some residents of the community, when interviewed, disagreed with the reported abduction figures, asserting that around 30 people had been kidnapped by the bandits, who also stole livestock in large numbers.
“It is not true; we have about thirty people kidnapped by these bandits who also rustled our livestock and made away with large numbers of them,” Inuwa Yusuf, a resident of the area, expressed this view.
