Six political parties to participate in A’Ibom NUJ guber debate

Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Akwa Ibom State council has said that only six political parties are ready to participate in the governorship debate organized by the Union ahead of the 2023 governorship election in the state.

Addressing a press conference in Uyo on Thursday to unveil the official logo of the 2023 Akwa Ibom state Governorship Debate, the Chairman of Political Committee of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Aniekan Udofia said out of 18 registered political parties, only six of them were invited for the debate.

Udofia listed the political parties as African Alliance Congress(AAC), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Young Peoples Party( YPP), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressives Congress (APC) and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) who will be represented by the party flag bearers adding that they were the only political parties who indicated interest to participate in the discussion.

“The Debate will be broadcast live on 11 radio stations, 6 television stations and streamed live on several social media platforms for the people to hear first-hand the plans of the invited governorship candidates for the state.”

Udofia explained that 20 partners are collaborating with the NUJ political committee to sponsor the gubernatorial debate.

He said some of the partners are Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Ibom Peoples Congress in United States of America, Fraknlyn Farms Ltd as well as the organized private sector.

He assured the public that the committee does not solicit financial support from any of the governorship candidates as they will strictly adhere to the rule of the debate.
