Seven killed in Otukpo as robbers attack police station and banks

Suspected robbers on Friday stormed three banks in the Otukpo area of Benue State and carted away millions of naira.

The robbers were said to have driven into the town around 3:15 p.m. and used dynamites to force the door open.

Seven people, including policemen and a former councillor transacting business in one of the affected banks, were reportedly killed by the suspected robbers.

According to an eyewitness, “the robbers first attacked the police station before proceeding to the banks.

“The robbers used two hilux vehicles and one other smaller car to carry out the robbery operation.

“The location of the banks, which is very close to the major market in Otukpo, caused a huge stir in the town as traders were seen running for their lives.

“It was sporadic gunshots that alerted people to the arrival of the suspected robbers.

Their first attack was the police station, which is adjacent the three banks.

“The banks affected are UBA, Zenith Bank, and First Bank Plc.

“The robbers operated for more than an hour without any resistance from security operatives’. the robbers threw naira notes as they left without any hindrance.
