Senator blames Mimiko for loss

By Friday Omosola

Senator Ayo Pius Akinyelure, representing Ondo Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, who was defeated by a lawyer, Ife Adedipe, at Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) senatorial primary election, has held a former governor of the state, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, responsible for his defeat.

Akinyelure claimed that a collusion led to his doom in the PDP senatorial primary held Monday in Akure. Adedipe, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, defeated Akinyelure who was pursuing a third term as a Senator. Akinyelure, who doubled as chairman of the House Committee on Public Petition, polled 58 votes, while Adedipe gathered 82 votes in the primary.

Akinyelure said: “I did not anticipate to be paid this way for the percentage of work I did for the Ondo Central Senatorial District. But I’m on a purpose that no one can stop.

“As a ranking Senator and with everything I’ve done for Ondo Central Senatorial District, the three ad-hoc delegates who endorsed Olusegun Mimiko were given money to vote me out.

“I comprehend what I’m talking about. In the Central, we have six local governments and by God’s grace, I am still a Senator which makes me delighted. But I am sure God will never let me down.”
