Rangers International Football Club have given its players, technical crew and backroom staff three weeks break due to elapse on the 27th of August.
After the 2021-2022 season of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) ended, Enugu Rangers kickstarted their quest for a seventh AITEO Cup title right from the round of 64 where they thumped Auwalu Baba Jada 4-1 until they unluckily fell out in the round of 32 to Heartland on penalties.
Consequent to the inactivity of the league or competitive actions, the management of Flying Antelopes approved a break with an emphasis on resumption by August 28 for the 2022/2023 NPFL season’s preparations.
In an official statement by the club through its media and communication officer, Norbert Okolie, it noted that the administrative secretary, Barrister Ferdinand Emeka Ugwuarua lamented over the Flying Antelopes’ failure to accomplish set targets but commended the players for the job done so far.
Rangers International Football Club ended the recently concluded NPFL season in 5th position and Ugwuarua, who is optimistic that the club will achieve set targets in the 2022-2023 season, admonished the players to conduct themselves properly during the period of recess.

“We all understand that we could not achieve our set target for last season and we are desirous of achieving it in the coming season, hence, I urge you to be professional in conduct during this break period so as to come back refreshed for the task ahead,” Ugwuarua said.
Head coach Abdul Maikaba on behalf of the technical crew and players appreciated the management of the club for their unwavering support for the team, who despite not meeting their goal last season, has solemnly assisted when needed.
“Even when our collective efforts did not result in achieving our set targets, I must thank you all for the cooperation shown and believe that we shall get it done in the coming season,” Maikaba said.
“I implore you all to display maturity as you take time off the game for the approved period and return stronger for us to strategize going into the new season,” he cautioned.
Last season, the Flying Antelopes scored a total of 41 goals and conceded 30 to garner a total of 56 points that saw them trail Kwara United, Remo Stars, Plateau United and eventual champions Rivers United.
