Profligate Manchester United Crashes out of FA Cup

Manchester United has been knocked out of the FA Cup competition by the championship club, Middlesbrough.

The dominant United had all chances to seal the game in the first-half but exhibited profligacy in a competition that they were almost guaranteed of getting a silverware this season.

Cristiano Ronaldo came close to putting Manchester United upfront in the 20th minute through a spot-kick but missed it.

In the 25th minute, Jadon Sacho, featuring in his debut FA Cup match, put United in the lead from an assist provided by Bruno Fernandes.

Middlesbrough, through Duncan Watmore’s assist, got Matt Crooks’ equaliser in the 64th minute.

The match which ended in a draw, proceeded into a penalty shootout, after extra time parity. Anthony Elanga’s miss handed Middlesbrough an 8-7 win on penalties.

Middlesbrough has met 11 times with Premier League clubs in FA competitions and this is the second win they have recorded after defeating Manchester City in 2015.
