The Premier League has confirmed 103 new positive cases in 15,186 COVID-19 tests carried out between 20 Dec – 26 Dec.
These tests were administered to players and staff of premier league football clubs.

In a statement, the Premier League management noted that it will continue to work with football clubs to ensure it mitigates and curtail the spread of the virus.

Sequel to these matches slated for 29 December, 30 December and other top-flight matches have been postponed indefinitely.

Following the recent high record of Covid-19 victims necessitating the postponements of fifteen English top-flight games in December, the management has resulted in daily Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) testing of all players and staff.

While being responsive to future challenges, the management said it will continue to liaise with the government, supporters, and all relevant bodies to help defeat the deadly virus that records a high number of mortalities during its span.

“The League can today confirm that between Dec. 20 and Sunday, 15,186 COVID-19 tests were administered on players and club staff. Of these, there were 103 new positive cases,” read a statement.

“The Premier League’s COVID-19 emergency measures include protocols such as wearing face coverings while indoors, observing social distancing, limiting treatment time, as well as the increased testing.

“The League is continuing to work with clubs to keep people safe by helping mitigate the risks of COVID-19 within their squads.

“We are also liaising closely with the Government, local authorities, and supporter groups while being responsive to any future changes to national or local guidance.”
