Police solicit public cooperation to fish out killers of Imo monarch, others

The Imo State Police Command has called on the general public to assist in the crackdown on the killers of HRH Eze Ignatius Asor, the traditional ruler of Obudi-Agwa in Ogutao Local Government Area of Imo State, and three others, assuring that the command will stop at nothing to bring the culprits to book.
The command made the call in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer, PPRO, CSP Michael Abattam, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP, Mohammed Ahmed Barde.
The commissioner who condemned in unequivocal terms, the killing of the royal father and his chiefs by the gunmen however called on the people of Oguta and the state at large to remain calm assuring that investigation has commenced to unravel the killers.
Narrating what happened, CP stated that the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in charge of Divisional Police Headquarters Agwa, in Oguta LGA on Monday received information that, hoodlums suspected to be members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its militant wing, Eastern Security Network, ESN, had attacked and killed the monarch.
He disclosed that the DPO, alerted by the distress call, swiftly joined by the Command’s Tactical Teams that rushed to the Palace of the assassinated monarch and on arrival discovered that the hoodlums had fled the scene.

According to him, preliminary investigation revealed that the hoodlums came in four vehicles and two motorcycles in company of a woman, disguising themselves as persons in distress and have come to report an emergency situation to him.
He added, “The unsuspecting Royal Father allowed them into his palace, sat down with them, in the process of explaining the reason for their visit, they brought out guns, shot and killed the Eze and two of his aides, and hurriedly fled the palace.
“On their way, they attacked the office of the Agwa vigilante group, shot one person and made away with three (3) motorcycles.”
He restated the commitment and resolve of his command to fight criminals and criminality to a halt in the state.
