Ambitious Peseiro seeks S’Eagles’ fourth AFCON title

New Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro says Nigerians and all the ethnic nationalities deserve success from the Nigeria senior men’s football team and hope to win the AFCON title.

The Portuguese gaffer presently with the team ahead of the double friendly matches with CONCACAF giant Mexico and Ecuador on May 29 and June 3 respectively, hopes to win a fourth Africa Cup of Nations title for Nigeria.

The 62-years-old, who fend off stiff competition from former France and Paris Saint-Germain manager Laurent Blanc, Phillip Cocu and former Barcelona boss, Ernesto Valverde to become Super Eagles’ 37th head coach, underlined that Nigeria is among football great nations.

He opined that knowing the history of the Nigeria senior men’s football team plays an indispensable role in commanding the three-time AFCON champions to victory.

“Pride! It is with great pride and joy that I am the coach of one of the greatest football nations in the world,” Peseiro said.

“Commanding the Super Eagles starts with knowing how to respect history, value it and be inspired by its roots.

“Over 200 million Nigerians, from all states and ethnicities, want the same thing: success.

We will work with great ambition so that in the end we can finally call Nigeria the four-time African champions,” Peseiro vowed.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) who appointed Sunday Oliseh to replace Augustine Eguavoen as the Super Eagles Technical Adviser included Finidi George, Salisu Yusuf, Usman Abd’Allah, Ike Shorunmu and Eboboritse Uwejabomere as the team’s coaching crew.
