PANDEF urges FG to build modular refineries in N/Delta

PAN Niger Delta Forum(PANDEF) has urged the federal government to consider building Modular Refineries in Niger Delta to check waves of crime arising from the unauthorized refining of crude oil in the region.

The forum also requests the federal government to intervene in failed portions of East west road project particularly Eleme-Onne, Patani-Kiama-Mbiama sections of the Port Harcourt – Aba, Benin –Auchi, Benin-Sapale-Warri, Benin-Agbor, Sapele – Agbor, Calabar – Itu, Ikot Ekpene-Aba, which have become impassable, suffocating social and economic activities in the areas to widespread poverty levels.

In a communique issued in Uyo at the weekend after an Expanded National Executive Meeting of the forum resolved that modular refineries should be encouraged in the region to stamp out unauthorized refining of crude and provide employment for youths.

The communique reads in parts:
“PANDEF Calls on the Federal Government to revisit the issue of supporting the development of Modular Refineries in the Niger Delta Region, to stamp out unwholesome, unauthorized refining of crude, as a way of providing employment for the teeming youths in the Niger Delta Region, and to curb criminality.

PANDEF also urged the federal government to concentrate on rebuilding dilapidated infrastructures in the region to give the people sense of belonging.

It congratulated all the state governors in the region particularly Akwa Ibom state governor pastor Umo Eno and senate president Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio as well as President Bola Tinubu on their victories at the just concluded elections.

“We congratulate the Governors of Akwa Ibom State, Cross River State, Delta State and Rivers State, on their victories at the polls, subsequent swearing-in on May 29, and successful assumption of Office as Executive Governors. Likewise, felicitates all the members of the 10th National Assembly from the South-South Geo-political Zone., and urges them to use their various offices to foster unity and peace, to accelerate the socioeconomic growth and transformation of the lives of our people.

“Again, commends President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for their firm resolve on the zoning of the Senate Presidency to the South-South, and for following through on it. ”

It appealed to Heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies handling Niger Delta issues to sustain different layers of government in the region to properly address challenges in the region.

The group cautioned youths in the region to shun unwarranted utterances that may undermine the activities of federal agencies and thwart developments in the area.

“We Strongly caution Youths of the Niger Delta Region to desist from unwarranted utterances capable of undermining the smooth functioning of federal agencies with direct bearing on the socio-economic development of the Region.

The communique which was signed by PANDEF National Chairman, Senator Ibok Essien appreciated the leader Chief Edwin Clerk on his forthcoming book launch on his autobiography and wished him well in all his endeavours.

“The Forum further congratulates its National Leader, Chief Dr E. K. Clark, on the forthcoming launch of his autobiography, *”Brutally Frank”*, 17th August 2023, in Abuja.”
