Nigeria forward Mathias Oyewusi has raised the hope of Lithuania’s topflight club, Žalgiris Vilnius, to qualify for the 2022-2023 UEFA Champions League.
The forward, in the second leg against Malmo FF, opened the scoresheet in the 34th minute at the Eleda Stadion which later ended 2-0 courtesy of Renan Oliveira’s 54-minute finisher.
Oyewusi was on top of his game, displaying brilliance to put Malmo FF on their knees. Describing his superb goal, the pacy striker humiliated goalie Edvinas Gertmonas in a one-on-one encounter to render the defensive system in disarray as the ball hit the back of the net unhindered.

Preceding the second leg against Malmo FF, Žalgiris in the first round of the Champions League clash with Kosovan side Ballkani, played a one-all-draw in Pristina City Stadium before Oyewusi finished the job after extra time at LFF Stadium.
The Lithuanian topflight proceeded to the second round where they humiliated the Blue Ones in a three-goal aggregate, courtesy of Oyewusi’s outstanding performances to complement the Green Whites’s surge towards a European tourney.
Consequently, Zalgiris after defeating the Swedish topflight, qualified for a third round, two-leg encounter with Norwegian topflight Bodo Glimt scheduled for 3 & 9 of August.
Oyewusi, 23, joined the Lithuanian club five months ago on a free transfer from FC Postojna and has netted five times in 16 appearances while providing two assists in A Lyga.
