Ondo community in fear as gunmen invade palace, kidnap Monarch

There was fear in Akoko community as unknown gunmen invaded the palace of the Oloso of Oso-Ajowa Akoko in Akoko North-West Local Government Area of Ondo State and kidnapped the traditional ruler of the town, Oba Clement Jimoh Olukotun.

The Trumpet gathered that the unknown gunmen suspected to be kidnappers invaded the palace on Thursday around 11:30 pm with sporadic shooting.

According to a source, the king was taken away, after the door to the palace was destroyed by the gunmen.

The source added that the location of the traditional ruler is unknown, told The Trumpet that the gunmen first knocked on the main entrance continually before forcing the doors open.

He further added that the gunshot pellets pierced the door before going into the monarch’s private room, dragging him out and taking him away.

He said none of the inhabitants could come out to face the gunmen armed with sophisticated weapons, adding that the security men arrived at the scene after the kidnappers had left.

“When they came, they surrounded the building and started ordering the monarch and other occupants to open the door and surrender themselves willingly, ” he said.

He further added that none of the family members had been contacted.

Confirming the incident, the State Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), Funmi Odunlami said detectives from the state command have been deployed to arrest the hoodlums.

She said, “it is true but the details of the incident are still not clear, however, police from the Divisional Police headquarters at Oke-Agbe, headquarters of Akoko Northwest Local Government Area of Ondo State, have been deployed in the town to launch an investigation into the incident”

Funmilayo said the monarch would be rescued alive from the captives of his abductors, police are on the trail of the kidnappers
