Ondo Amotekun nabs 1,000 criminals in four months

The Ondo State Security outfit codenamed, Amotekun Corps, said it has arrested over 1,000 suspected criminals in different parts of the State within the last four months.
The Corps Commandant, Chief Adetunji Adeleye gave the figure while briefing the State House of Assembly Committee on Culture, Tourism, Security, Community Development and Cooperative Services led by its Chairman, Ololade Gbegudu during a visit to the agency.
Adeleye said the suspects were arrested for their involvement in various criminal activities ranging from armed robbery, kidnapping, fraud, and others.
The Amotekun Commander further stated that over 100 motorcycles have been impounded after several warnings not to operate at night, saying the command knew that 85 percent of criminal activities were being perpetrated at night through the use of motorcycles.
He appreciated Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for the political will accorded the Agency which he said had improved its operations.
He also commended the Lawmakers for the legislative support towards the security outfit, letting out that the Corps is committed to protecting the lives and property of the people.

While sending a warning to criminals in the state to relocate that the command has zero tolerance for crime, he called for support to help the Agency function optimally.
He said, “farmers are now going about their farming activities as criminal elements terrorizing some of the communities had been dislodged.”
Responding, the Chairman, of the State House of Assembly Committee on Culture, Tourism, Security, Community Development and Cooperative Services, Gbegudu appreciated the State Government and the Commandant for improving the security situation and ensuring residents are protected.
Gbegudu said three years ago, the social economic activities of the people were bad due to the insecurity facing the country, noting that things have now changed.
