Olumide Agoye steps down as 3SC coach

Prepares to attend a coaching course abroad

Head coach of Shooting Star Sports Club, Edith Olumide Agoye has tended his resignation voluntarily which has been accepted by the management of 3SC.

Agoye has had a long spell with the Ibadan-based club and on two occasions, led them to qualify for the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

While the most recent promotion to the Nigeria elite division was in 2020/2021 season, the football gaffer last season, led the team to sustain its NPFL status.

In a statement by the club and signed by the executive chairman, Honourable Babatunde Olaniyan, on Tuesday, 3SC thanked Agoye for his long-time contributions to the club, including guiding the team to win a promotion to the elite league.

3SC also commended Governor Oyo State, Oluseyi Makinde for granting the club’s approval to send Aboye to further his coaching course in the United Kingdom.

The statement read in part: “Coach Agoye, a former player of the Ibadan soccer lords, quitted as the chief tactician of the Oluyole Warriors on Tuesday, after a nine-year spell both as an assistant coach and the head coach.

“As an assistant coach, he worked under coaches Franklin Howard (2014/15), Gbenga Ogunbote (2015/16) and Fatai Amoo (2016/17), before he was named the head coach during the 2017/18 season, the position he held
till he resigned on Tuesday.

“Apart from guiding the team to pick a promotion ticket back to the elite league in the 2020/21 season, after four unsuccessful attempts, the former Ila FC and Gateway United gaffer led 3SC to a historic eight consecutive victories in the Nigeria National League (NNL), en route the team’s qualification for the playoff in Enugu, where the team eventually secured promotion to the elite league,” 3SC said.
