Imo Guber: Ohanaeze accuses Northern APC of Plot against Gov Uzodinma

By KENNETH ONYEKWERE, ABAKILIKI

Apex Igbo Socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide, said it has uncovered a grand conspiracy orchestrated by the Northern All Progressives Congress, APC, against Governor Hope Uzodinma, ahead of the November 11, governorship election in lmo state.

Ohanaeze stated that the malicious plans were aimed to politically hanging Governor Uzodinma by exploiting alleged past political errors, as a means of seeking retribution and revenge.

A statement signed on Thursday, by Ohanaeze’s Secretary-general, Mazi Okechukwu lsiguzoro, accused the powerful forces within the APC determined to arm-twist President Bola Tinubu in denying Uzodinma’s federal backing for the upcoming Imo State Gubernatorial elections scheduled for Saturday, 11th November, 2023.

It noted that Ohanaeze while maintaining its zero neutrality, stance with no candidate for the elections, added that cannot ignore the strong indications of witch-hunting or political persecution targeted at Governor Uzodinma.

The statement read in part” It is believed that Governor Uzodinma’s “sins” include his involvement in working against President Tinubu during the Presidential Primaries, alongside the Former APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu.

“The APC cabal, who were responsible for the removal of Adamu and the APC National Secretary due to their infamous roles against Tinubu during the primaries, are now demanding that Governor Uzodinma be sacrificed.

“Our suspicions were further reinforced by a timely press interview, credited to the Former APC National Vice Chairman (North West), Salihu Lukman. In this interview, Lukman allegedly pointed out that Governor Uzodinma was rewarded as the Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, PGF, after allegedly funding attempts to adopt Former Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, as the APC consensus Presidential candidate.

The Igbo organisation, called on President Bola Tinubu to exercise forgiveness and fairness in handling the situation, saying that the unjust targeting of Governor Uzodinma, based on political disagreements and power struggles, undermines the principles of democracy and fairness that the nation upholds.

According to the statement, Ohanaeze firmly stands against any form of political persecution, manipulation, or vendetta, while calling call on all well-meaning Nigerians to join in condemning the actions and uphold the principles of justice, equity, and inclusivity in the political processes.

“We urge President Tinubu to rise above personal grudges and ensure that Governor Hope Uzodinma is given a fair chance to seek re-election in the Imo State Gubernatorial elections. The will and choice of the people should be respected, and their voices should be heard without undue interference or manipulation.

The body further stated that it remains committed to fostering unity, peace, and progress for Ndigbo and the entire nation.
