ODIRS Distributes Generator, Gas Cylinders To Appreciate Okada Riders

The Ondo State Internal Revenue Service (ODIRS) has distributed power generating sets and gas cylinders to felicitate Okada riders in the state towards their contribution to the state economy.

Speaking at the programme held at the Tax House in Akure, the Chairman, Ondo State Internal Revenue Service (ODIRS), Tolu Adegbie said the program was part of efforts the state government put in place to extend a hand of appreciation to taxpayers in the state.

Tolu noted that Okada riders had contributed immensely to the revenue generation of the state, which led to the approval of the programme by the state Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to give the riders some tangible things in form of appreciation.

He unveiled that about N700 million was realized from the riders’ tickets in 2021 as against the N400,000 Okada union leaders normally remitted to the state in the past.

On his part, the state Commissioner for Finance, Wale Akinterinwa said this was the first time any administration in the state would extend such a gesture to taxpayers, adding that Governor Akeredolu would always show gratitude to any sector that contribute to the development of the state.

He called for their continuous cooperation with the government and to pay their dues as expected.

Giving his address, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Special Duties, Dr Doyin Odebowale noted that Okada registration exercise was not to persecute the riders but to hinder criminals from taking advantage of okada riding to perpetrate evil in the state.

He added that the state would extend such a gesture to other sectors that are paying their tax as expected to the state.

Some of the beneficiaries appreciated the government for the kind gesture, affirming that it will gear them to pay their tax as expected.
