By Isaac Olamikan

Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, has described late Madam Teresa Namurie Ikimi as a great Edo daughter who lived an excellent and sacrificial life.

Obaseki said this when he led other top government functionaries to the funeral mass of the late Teresa Ikimi held at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Ukeghie Street, off I.C.E Road, Benin City, Edo State.

Other guests at the event include Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Osaigbovo Iyoha; former Senator Representing Edo South Senatorial District, Ehigie Uzamere; former Deputy Governor of Edo State, Mike Oghiadomeh; Edo State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman Tony Aizegbemi and former Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly (EDHA), Hon. Justine Okonobo, among others.

The governor said, “We lost a great daughter of Edo State and she has lived a life of sacrifice. She has contributed meaningfully to the growth and development of Edo State. I thank God for her life of sacrifice and even in death, she has pulled this crowd to herself.

“She lived a life of sacrifices and all who are present here today that have interacted with her, have one story or the other to tell about her life and how they have benefited from her life of giving. This life is not about us but how much we are able to give to others and God.”

In his homily, titled, “there’s time for everything,” Rev. Fr. Daniel Aigbona said, “death is a mystery and a journey everyone is afraid to take but must take at one time or the other.”

The clergy noted, “Teresa was born to love and serve. She was known for her generosity with her earthly possession. She was always ready and willing to go out of her way to help people and her hospitality knew no bounds. She is a compassionate woman who cared for the needy, vulnerable, poor and less privileged in society.”
