NGO gives Isoko indigent bright students scholarship

A non-governmental organization, Obaro Best Foundation has awarded scholarship to 10 indigent Isoko bright students in tertiary institution across Nigeria who are currently on first class grade.

The second edition of the scholarship award was held at Isoko South Local Government Secretariat, Cooperative Hall, Oleh.

The foundation last year birthed the dream of supporting ten (10) indigent but bright students of Isoko origin with a scholarship award of one hundred thousand naira(#100,000.00) each annually.

Recipients of the scholarship awardees are: Obrifor Favour, Esther Idume, Ogorode Oghenerukome, Ajimi Joshua, Igogo Ogheneyoma, Igogo Eloghenezino, Oghenekaro Peter, Okorigwe Samuel, Obusoh David and Ighosewe Oghenetejiri.

In his address the Coordinator of the Obaro Best Foundation Dr. Oke Michael Aziakpono stated that, “The scholarship award programme started last year with a test conducted for indigent students that applied and 10 successful students were chosen from various schools across the nation.

According to him, “We told them last year that for them to continue to enjoy the scholarship award they must continue to do well academically. We asked them for their results and we were impressed with their academic performance.

“Almost half of them are in the medical field, that means few years from now Isoko will have more additional doctors. Looking at their performance, they are all doing well academically.

He added that, “For them to remain focused in their academics pursuit despite distraction and harsh economic condition, It is obvious if they have the right environment, they can do better.

I am just the coordinator, the sponsor of this programme,Mr. Isaiah Obaro Best sees the need to give back to the society and the two areas he has chosen are education and health.

He said that the sponsor had promised awardees that he would continue to give them scholarship, adding that when they graduate, another group of first class grade indigent students would replace them

He therefore admonished the students to take their studies seriously and make Isoko proud, stating that they should not allow challenges and distraction to stop them from in their academic pursuits.

Also speaking at the event the 2nd Vice President of Isoko Development Union Chief Dan Odhomo stated that, “For a man to sit down in his comfort to think about Isoko nation indigent students and spend his hard earned money to give them scholarship, such person needs to to be encouraged.

“On behalf of Isoko Development Union I want this message to get to him that we are solidly behind him morally, prayerfully to continue to do what his doing.

He enjoined the recipients of the scholarship awards to work hard in their academics pursuit and be focused, noting that they were very lucky that somebody was thinking about them by contributing to their education.

Responding on behalf of the students Master Obusoh David and Ogorode Oghenerukome thanked the sponsor and the foundation for their kind gesture.

According to them, “It will serve as a motivation us to do more so that we can qualify for the scholarship next year”.
