New AIG assumes duty in Bayelsa

A new Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Ayim Abrahim Eyong, has assumed duty at the Zone 16 headquarters in Bayelsa State.

Ayim Abrahim Eyong replaces AIG Don Awunah who died last month after a brief illness. Zonal Police Public Relations officer, CSP Ikwo Kevin Lafieghe, in a statement announced that Eyong is the third in the line of AIGs that have presided over the Zone 16 covering Bayelsa and Rivers State.

AIG Eyong, while assuming duty at the zonal headquarters in Yenagoa, promised to bring his professional and intellectual exposure to bear in superintending the affairs of the two states within the zone. The new AIG hails from Ogoja Local Government area of Cross Rivers State and was commissioned as a cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police in 1988.

He has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geography and regional planning from the University of Jos. Eyong was described as a dogged crime fighter and operational guru who has held several positions in the strata of the police force.

Until his recent appointment, promotion and posting, he was a Commissioner of Police, Administration in the Department of Finance and Administration, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
