Napoli await Chelsea on Kepa’s loan move

Italian club Napoli are on the verge of bringing Spanish goalie Kepa Arrizabalaga to Stadio Diego Armando Maradona but await Chelsea to accept their loan offer.

Kepa, an option to Senegalese Edouard Mendy, the Blues’ first goalkeeping choice, would seek a move elsewhere to be availed of more playing time.

Napoli aimed for Kepa after David Ospina joined Saudi Arabia club Al Nassr on a free transfer and Nikita Contini is close to a switch to Sampdoria.

The Italian club president, Aurelio de Laurentiis has held talks with Kepa’s representative and expects Chelsea to accept their propositions.

According to reports from Italy, the Blues are not opposed to a loan deal for the 27-year-old but their request has been a hitch in finalising the deal.

Chelsea proposed that Napoli will pay €1.5 million if they qualify for the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League and another €1.5 million if they end their Serie A campaign in the top four.

While Napoli is opposed to Chelsea’s request, the Italian club have opted to pay €1.5million in total for both options. The Italian club proposed to pay €750,000 if they qualify for the knockout stage of the UEFA Champions League and another €750,000 if they finish in the top four of this season’s Serie A campaign.

More so, Napoli’s proposition is an adjustment of their earlier offer when they requested to pay €1m if they qualify for the UEFA Champions League and €500,000 if they finish the season in the top four.

However, while Napoli await Chelsea to consider their offer for Kepa who made a switch to London in 2018 from Athletic Bilbao, they have targeted 35-year-old Keylor Navas of Paris Saint-Germain and 32-year-old Kevin Trapp of Eintracht Frankfurt as alternatives.
