Taiwo Awoniyi fires Forest to first Premier League victory in 23 years

Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi scored his first Premier League goal against West Ham United on Sunday to hand Forest their first Premier League victory in 23 years and 90 days.
The former Union Berlin striker, who moved to the English topflight league this season at circa €20m to sign a five-year deal, opened the goal chart for Forest just before the close of the first half.
Awoniyi, 25, a former player of Liverpool before he was sold to Union Berlin, has kick-started a campaign to show to the Reds what they missed for failing to give him enough time to prove himself at Anfield.

West Ham scored the first goal through Said Benrahma which was disallowed by VAR in the 42nd minute before Awoniyi broke the deadlock in what resulted in the only goal of the game to hand Steve Cooper his first Premier League win since Nottingham gained promotion to the English top-tier last season.
Feelers have continued to overwhelm the entire space at City Ground that contains about 27,000 fans whose chants, “Forest are back” rented the air spine-tingling.
According to post-match Opta stats by The Telegraph, Taiwo Awoniyi netted Nottingham Forest’s first Premier League goal in 23 years and 90 days (Chris Bart-Williams vs Leicester City in May 1999) – the longest gap between a team scoring consecutive goals in the competition’s history.
