NACCIMA tasks Obi on challenges facing businesses, states objectives

The National Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) has tasked Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, to develop a blueprint that will revive businesses and create new ones in the country.

President of NACCIMA, Ide John C. Udeagbala, gave the charge on Thursday, August 18, 2022 during an interactive session with Obi at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce (LCCI) exhibition centre along the Lagos Ibadan Expressway.

He said the interactive session with Obi was to provide an opportunity to get acquainted with the challenges confronting the business sector in the country, adding that several challenges were confronting businesses in the country.

Lamented that businesses were not growing at the desired rate as they were having challenges on several fronts, he told Obi that NACCIMA is an association of business people, which focuses on advocacy, promotion of trade and business development.

“Our association is saddled with the responsibility of informing the government of the effects of its policies on the private sector and to ensure that the government continues to improve the business space,” he said.

Explaining that NACCIMA was not a political group, he said the association would continue to inform government of its duty to improve the business environment and ensure that it provides an enabling environment that guarantees ease of doing business in the country.

He stressed that the interactive session with Obi was to ensure that the opinions and concerns of the association found their way into political sphere, especially during the electioneering year.

He pledged that the chamber was making efforts to ensure similar interactive sessions with presidential candidates of other political parties, adding that the session will provide opportunity for questions and answers as it affects businesses.

Udeagbala further disclosed that the questions centered on various issues such as insecurity, exchange rate management, port congestion, power sector reform, the on-going ASUU strike, petroleum subsidy and other topical issues.
